Sumner M. Davenport
Sumner Davenport has been building websites and working with digital marketing venues since 1998 utilizing products from Microsoft and Adobe. In 2008 she was introduced to WordPress and has since moved all clients to this versatile CMS platform.
Over the years she has actively recruited professionals in various specialties of digital marketing and design, SEO, Internet strategy, analytics, SMS, social media, PR, permission marketing and technical functionality to become part of her team. Currently this team consists of members from around the globe working together to achieve the best solutions for the client in reaching their target market.
For years, Sumner was aware of the need for websites to be accessible for persons with disabilities and she was diligent in searching for solutions. Once discovering the resources needed to make websites accessible, Sumner made this direction of web design her passion. With over 33% of websites being built on WordPress, Sumner specializes Web Accessibility in sites built on WordPress. She and her team build, maintain, evaluate and remediate WordPress websites to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards.
She is active in accessibility and legal conferences and educational venues, including WordCamp and local WordPress groups where she regularly speaks on topics related to compliance issues for WordPress websites. She is the Founder of educational venues wA11y4all which provides presentations to business groups on the benefits, importance and overall value of having an accessible website and wA11yWP through which she conducts ongoing educational events for web designers who use WordPress, so they can better understand the ease and value of inclusive design and accessibility. She also teaches designers and Do-it-Yourselfers who use WordPress the steps to remediating a WordPress site.She is a member of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) and several industry specific associations.
Sumner is actively involved with several charitable organizations who are committed to our future. Causes Sumner supports includes: Ability First, CASA, The Wellness Community, Pearls of Hope ®, PetOrphans, Special Olympics Southern California, Prevent Child Abuse, Stop Puppy Mills. As a best selling author she donates proceeds from her books to selected charities. She is owned by a rescue dog named Tigger and his rescue cat, Merlin.
Sumner Davenport and members of her team actively volunteer with conferences and events to emphasize inclusion and Accessibility.
